Mission Statement:

The ICTMD Study Group on Gender and Sexuality aims to:

1. Encourage understandings of gender and sexuality in music and dance, sound and movement.
2. Stimulate critical inuiry into gender and sexuality in music and dance research and practice.
3. Identify research gaps pertaining to gender and sexuality in music and dance globally.
4. Expand the methodological and theoretical bases in music and dance research related to gender and sexuality, including intersectional approaches.
5. Criticall examine discrimination and violence based on various gender identities and sexualities and support those who may be marginalized because of their gender and/or sexuality.
6. Provide a forum for the presentation and interpretation of new material and disseminate research findings.
(Objectives adopted at the Study Group's second meeting at the Freie Universität in West Berlin on July 27-29, 1987 and updated at the Study Group's meeting at Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur on August 31, 2024)

The next Welcome Meeting of of the ICTMD Study Group on Gender and Sexuality will take place during the ICTMD World Conference at 15 January 2025 at 13:00 (New Zealand time) at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University, Room T1 and virtually via Zoom.

The last Business Meeting of of the ICTM Study Group on Music, Gender and Sexuality was held during the group's last symposium on 31 August 2024 at Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 14:00 (Kuala Lumpur), 08:00 (CET) Hall 2, Graduate Center at Sunway University Kuala Lumpur and virtually via Zoom.

The 2023 Welcome Meeting (Business Meeting) of the ICTM Study Group on Music Gender and Sexuality was held during the ICTM World Conference 2023 on Wednesday 19 July 2023 at 13:00 h Ghana time (GMT 0) in room CC2 at the University of Legon, Ghana and also virtually via Zoom.

The 2022 Business Meeting of the ICTM Study Group on Music, Gender and Sexuality was held during the ICTM World Conference 2022 on Wednesday, 27 July 2022 at 13h (CET-1) at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon, Room 10 as well as online via Zoom.

The 2021 Business Meeting was held at the Study Group Symposium at the Music Academy in Zagreb, Croatia on September 28, 2021. 

In the year 2020 no meeting was held due to the COVID19 pandemic.

The 2019 Business Meeting was held at the ICTM World Conference at the Chulalongkorn University in Bagkok, Thailand on July 2019.

BUSINESS MEETING

The business meetings of the ICTM Study Group on Music and Gender took place at the 45th ICTM World Conference in Bangkok, Thailand hosted by Chulalongkorn University in 2019 on Monday, 15 July at 1:00 pm (1300 hours) in the Baromrajakumaree Building Room 604 at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand.
